hello everyone thank you for coming to our virtual back to school night I'm Mister going to Solace I am the current long-term substitute teacher for the Social Studies classes here in Cedar High School and I am very excited to share what we've been doing so far this year so I teach you as a government periods 1 and 5 United States history. To asp. and world history. 4 so a little bit about me I was raised in Fillmore California so I am a little person Palmer high school in 2012 and went to the University of Oregon where I graduated with a political science degree in 2016 I've been working here in Fillmore as a substitute since 2016 during that time I started a teaching credential program and I finished that last year so I obtain my Master's of Education in the process of obtaining my car California all the classes that all the other teachers teachers have so I'm currently the substitute while they searched for a replacement for this morning she went over and she's a administrator now so I've been here for the for the whole school year look at some of the classes so I teach United States government periods 1 and 5 this class is a bit unique because it's one of the only classes that is one semester long so this class goes from August to winter break in December tennis class will be learning about the origins of the American government how it works and how it affects our everyday lives some of the topics so we will be covering in this class included for me the three branches of the United States government civil rights and civil liberties how to participate in the government public policies and services state and local governments record you cannot systems so far we've covered the formation of the United States government and the kids have been learning about the basics of government and how it should work go over by grading policies for for the classes second. Is United States this is the typical 11th grade class while you was governments the typical 12th grade class soon as class will be learning about the history of United States all the way from the revolution to modern day so far we've covered the early Americans who came here first and we're just starting our the Revolutionary War unit the past week with uses. To do our i-Ready testing some of the topics that will be covered in this class include the revolution mission of America the Civil War the westward expansion in the early nineteen hundreds of wars and Great Depression and Cold War I need to also teach asp so this class would do a lot of things we do things like make posters for staff of the week which the students themselves as well for we take pictures at lunch play music we just had our first day of school not many people want to do positions like this but these students were willing to volunteer so we have our president was about a hundred Melendez our Treasures Mike Alonzo are spear Point Commissioners are Jasmine Rivera and avocado our secretary is Elisa Ochoa and our students or Commissioners are Leon Tavares and Mike Alonzo last week we did a spirit week so these kids came up with dress-up days and classes from 3rd. Got points depending on how much they dressed up that week 4th. Class will be learning about the history of the world from the Renaissance to the modern day and focus on Europe Asia Africa and the Americas but not too much that's worth this class is usually taking in in the 10th grade and here are the some of the topics will cover the Renaissance Reformation we just covered that we took a quiz on that we're not covering the age of exploration and then later on we'll do them French Revolution World War Cold War in a lawn mower my grading policy policy from this with Morgan so this is the exact one that she used last year and in previous years the class work it's three thirty percent so it's any work that we do in class I don't really do homework for this club for these classes I really hope we still have is if he didn't finish their class work in class we have assessments which are quizzes and tests we just that's our first quizzes in government and what history class then we have to have finals and participation for 10% posted a whole bunch of grades so your students grades should be pretty accurate to what it is but if your student has an F or a low-grade look at the Aronoff most likely means I've been missed several days of school I know we had a bunch of covet we had to do some try to get those kids caught up I can get you to work for them if they haven't talked to me yet for government and will history if your suit has a low grade it might mean that they fail the quiz that we took last week I do give him a text to make it up but they have to come up and talk to me in make some kind of arrangement for a review session.
